June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, and at Safeway Medicare we want to start a conversation that is long overdue.\n\nIn Uganda and across East Africa, men are often raised to be strong and silent. Phrases like "man up" or "real men don't cry" discourage men from talking about how they feel. As a result, many men suffer in silence from depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma.\n\nThe numbers are sobering. Men are significantly less likely to seek mental health support than women, yet they account for a higher proportion of suicide cases globally.\n\nSigns that a man in your life may be struggling include: withdrawal from family and friends, increased alcohol use, irritability or anger, loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed, changes in sleep or appetite, and talking about feeling hopeless.\n\nWhat can you do?\n- Check in on the men in your life. A simple "how are you really doing?" can open a door.\n- Listen without judgment.\n- Encourage them to speak to a doctor. Mental health is health.\n\nAt Safeway Medicare, our doctors provide confidential, compassionate consultations for mental wellbeing. You do not have to be in crisis to seek support. We are here for you, every step of the way.\n\nCall us on 0744 062 187 or walk in to our clinic on Buwate Road, Najjera. Open 24/7.
